Ira passed on April 26, 2018.
For anyone who had the opportunity to know him, you certainly will never forget him. Ira was a brilliant tax accountant during the day, but outside of work, he was so much more. He was a dedicated family man, a loyal friend, and an incredible mentor to so many people. And yes, you know who you are.
Every year, the Silver Slam Match Play Championship is played in Ira’s honor. And honestly, I think he would love every minute of it. To live up to Ira’s love , and sometimes pure hatred of the game of golf, the people who play in this event make sure the fun gets taken to another level. It really is a great group of humans.
One of the great Ira golf memories is that he absolutely hated bunkers. And somehow, every time his ball found the sand, it would inevitably land in a footprint.
Every. Single. Time.
So in true Ira fashion, the Silver Slam now has the official “move your ball out of a footprint” rule , no stroke, for all golfers during competition.
It is funny, but it is also perfect. It reminds all of us that the little things we get so bent out of shape about really don’t matter. What matters is the people you play with, the laughs you share, the memories you make, and the impact someone leaves behind.
Ira left a big one.
